Post Conference Summary of the World Congress Experience

April 19, 2018Collision Investigation & Reconstruction

Better known as WCX18, the World Congress Experience is an insightful engineering conference that enlightens industry professionals and leaders in every aspect of the global mobility future.

Our very own Dr Richard Lambourn, Principal Consultant at TRL, has been a supporter of SAE for several decades; sitting on the organisers committee, reviewing abstracts related to accident reconstruction, managing peer reviews of papers and chairing sessions at the conference. Dr Lambourn first presented a paper at the SAE Congress back in 1991.

In WCX18, Dr Lambourn chaired one of the sessions on Accident Reconstruction. This year the Accident Reconstruction sessions were on the whole of the first and second days, with the notionally separate Event Data Recorder (EDR) papers included in the afternoon of the second day: the fact that there is no longer a separate EDR session reflects how EDRs have become part of the day-to-day activity of all accident reconstructionists in north America. TRL have been able to carry out EDR downloads in the UK for several years and with the number of supported vehicles increasing all of the time, this is becoming a routine consideration for the investigation of road collisions in the UK.

Dr Lambourn described the WCX18 as, ‘an inspiring interactive forum to share research and knowledge through driving critical discussions on the future of mobility.’

SAE 2019 will be from 9 to 11 April and the deadline for abstracts is likely to be 1st September 2018.
