Consultants from TRL’s Expert Witness and Investigations Group have been supporting the work of Global Fleet Champions in promoting fleet safety
Global Fleet Champions is a not-for-profit, global partnership campaign led by Brake, the road safety charity. Its aim is to prevent crashes and reduce pollution caused by vehicles used for work purposes, which aligns with TRL’s vision for safer, cleaner and innovative transport modes.
TRL contributed to a webinar about incident analysis and intervention, which was a significant part of Global Fleet Champions’ ‘Essentials of Fleet Safety’ series. Our presentation, entitled ‘Pre and post-crash analysis techniques’ provided an overview of the actions that might be taken in order to contribute to the investigation of a collision. Alex introduced some basic procedures and practical considerations for those who wish to collect information that might be used to learn from incidents, and thereby help to prevent reoccurrences.
In addition, Simon Lane spoke at the Global Fleet Champions seminar ‘Crisis management: Training for managers’ on 4 December 2019. The seminar provided training to fleet and HR managers about how an organisation can support staff after a traffic collision or other traumatic event. Simon’s presentation developed themes from Alex’s webinar and again gave practical advice on what managers may usefully and realistically do after a road incident, while being mindful of their own safety. Even a basic initial information-gathering exercise can secure evidence that later proves to be a valuable contribution to a detailed, professional investigation.
TRL provide bespoke training courses for fleet managers, legal practitioners, insurers and others who wish to learn more about collision investigation methods and the benefits of capturing accurate and relevant information as soon as possible after an incident.
