Independent. Trusted. Respected.
Forensic collision investigations who work at TRL come from a variety of backgrounds and join us at different phases in their careers. We are interested to hear from all of you.
What we offer at TRL are cases that are out of the ordinary. Many are not even in the UK – our influence is global and we receive instructions from around the world.
We welcome applications and expressions of interest from generalists and specialists alike. There is opportunity for career progression either way.
Some on the team have a purely legal background. Others are scientists and bio-mechanic injury specialists. Police investigators are especially welcome to apply, brining real-world experience to the team.
Training is provided for making court appearances and attaining expert witness status.
We also encourage our investigators to coach others and deliver CPD training to personal injury lawyers. This is good for your personal profile, presentation and communication skills, and helps build solid relationships with case handlers.
Your location in the UK doesn’t matter as flexible home working is the norm at TRL.

Be a contributor to road safety
Being part of TRL means access to and collaboration on niche research studies that give you an edge when analysing the root cause and contributory factors to a collision. TRL experts have written motorcycle helmet standards, designed test regimes for airbags and ABS, they did all the original research into blood alcohol limits and the dangers of using mobile phones while driving. TRL is directly responsible for seatbelts, child seats, NCAP and the creation of ITAI. Today, we are actively involved in all sorts of studies relating to automated vehicles, electric scooters, vehicle headlamps, driver fatigue detection systems, the skid resistance of asphalt, to name but a few. The fundamental design of roads and the design of the driving test is down to TRL.
This doesn’t just mean that you are the first to know about new evidence. It means that as well as your case work, there is an opportunity to design trials, review the results, co-author the reports.
Being part of the Forensic Investigation team means not only working with police on collecting and interpreting evidence, but also assisting private fleet owners and operators to make driving for work safer for their employees.
