Visualisation & 3D Modelling

At TRL, we believe that clarity in collision investigation lies in presenting complex data in a clear and compelling way. Our 3D modelling and scene visualisation services bring together advanced tools, precise measurements, and expert analysis to reconstruct scenes with accuracy and objectivity. In doing so, we help our clients gain a deeper understanding of the events leading to a collision.

2D scene plans

We can map the collision locus in detail, capturing measurements through laser scanning, drone imagery, or traditional surveying. These datasets allow us to create a 2D scene plan that can be used to better understand the layout of the locus. When combined with expert interpretation, they can offer clarity on points of impact, travel directions, and collision scenarios.

3D modelling and advanced visualisation

We can also produce 3D models of the collision scene using our advanced visualisation techniques. We can integrate topographical and environmental factors, such as gradients, lighting conditions, and roadside structures.

Our dynamic visualisations bring collision scenarios to life. They demonstrate the movements, speeds, sight lines, and interactions of vehicles and other road users.

Driver visibility analysis

Visibility assessments can provide a comprehensive understanding of what a driver may, or may not, have been able to see at the time of a collision. Our team conducts detailed visibility assessments, considering factors such as window geometry, mirror placement, and potential blind spots. Heavy goods vehicles, for example, may have extensive blind zones that could hide pedestrians or cyclists from view. Cars and other smaller vehicles can also suffer from obstructed vision due to the vehicle’s design.

To quantify visibility, we create driver-eye viewpoint visualisations at various positions and times leading up to the collision. These visualisations help demonstrate whether the driver was afforded a clear line of sight or if an obstruction significantly limited their field of vision.
