More than a quarter of all road traffic collisions involve people driving for work. With that in mind, TRL has designed a training course to equip Health and Safety, Fleet and Operations Managers responsible for fleet management with the required skills and knowledge to address issues arising from incidents involving company vehicles and staff.
Traffic collisions that involve company cars or freight vehicles can cost companies a significant amount of money on repairing vehicles, increased insurance premiums, court defence costs and the injuries to the driver. This course will save you money.
Determining the factors that contribute to any traffic collision is a complex process which can only be undertaken effectively using physical evidence from the accident scene and vehicles involved. This course will teach you what evidence you should collect and could collect yourself to improve your legal position.
It is important for organisations to have the knowledge and abilities in-house to assess the contributory factors surrounding traffic collisions, in order to make recommendations to prevent these accidents in the future. What does the course involve?
The two-day course is delivered by TRL’s highly experienced road collision investigators. It may be delivered remotely via the internet, held at a location of your choice, or at TRL’s Head Office in Wokingham. The road traffic accident investigation training includes:

- An overview of the human, vehicle and environmental influences that could cause or contribute to traffic collisions
- How to capture physical evidence and what to look for, including health and safety considerations when investigating a collision scene
- Techniques for vehicle examination, photographing evidence and measuring collision scenes
- The use of in-vehicle technology and CCTV analysis and how they can assist an investigation
- An introduction to reconstruction methods
- Accident report writing – what to say and how to say it
- Basic equipment required for collision investigation
Upon completion of the course, attendees will be able to:

- Obtain collision investigation CPD accredited hours for professional development records
- Understand what an investigation involves and capture potentially critical short-lived evidence to analyse the collision scene
- Report on how or why a collision occurred and what can be done to prevent it from happening again
- Advise the company’s legal position and corrective actions to take
- Make recommendations for company reviews of vehicle safety policies and investment
- Support staff training and the company’s disciplinary process
